The overall verdict is: Review Score, 1=Worst - 5=Best

My book is called Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief and the author is Rick Riordan. The genre of the book is action thriller/mystery. This is the kind of book I would recommend to 10- to- 14-year- olds because it would be a little bit harder to understand for little children, although I really enjoyed it and have read it two times now.

Percy, a thirteen-year-old boy, with brown hair and a nosy personality, is connected to his father, Poseidon, the sea god, and Sally Jackson, his mother is connected to Annabeth and Grover as they are best friends and do everything together (including defeating monsters)!

This story is about a boy who thinks he is as ordinary as any other boy (well, any other who gets expelled from school every year)  until he accidentally vaporises his maths teacher and soon finds himself on a quest with Annabeth and Grover. Together they have to  return  Zeus’s master bolt (and, in this book the gods are alive and kicking) before the gods break up into the biggest war in the history of the Earth.

This book has a lot of modern language which I think is really effective and sets the scene extremely well. By modern, I mean slang and accents, he puts in the accents and describes them so well that the words seem to evolve into pictures and the pictures seem to leap off the page and say exactly what they are supposed to say. And the slang makes it so now that it seems as though it could happen every day!

This book is in a set of books, the Percy Jackson collection and the other books include: The Lightning Thief, The Sea of Monsters, The Titans' Curse, The Battle of the Labyrinth and The Last Olympian.

I think it is this book that first makes you want to read on. This book grabs your attention and pulls you in and makes you read the whole set. I would give this book a five star rating of five stars rating as it is a brilliant book
