New Moon by Stephanie Meyer is a romance fantasy story. It is about a normal eighteen-year-old girl, a pack of werewolves, and a family of vampires who are said to be ‘vegetarians’.
The main character is Bella Swan, who is in love with a vampire called Edward. The other important characters are Edward Cullen and Jacob Black, who is a werewolf from a pack of five, and also Bella’s best friend. Jacob also loves Bella and he doesn’t like Edward. The story is told in the past tense by Bella so it is like she already knows what is going to happen next in the book.
At the beginning of this book, in the night, Bella is always dreaming and then having nightmares and her dad always comes up to see what is wrong. Bella often goes to Jacob’s house, but nearly every time, she finds that no one is in so she starts to get suspicious. Bella also feels very lonely when Edward says to her that she will never see him again. Then Bella gets very angry around people all of a sudden because her boyfriend and her best friend have both disappeared.
There is a lot of suspense in this book and you only know as much as Bella does because it is written in a very slow way with lots of description. The author captures the character’s emotions really well and makes you wait for all the exciting action.
This book is second in the series of the Twilight Saga. The titles are; Twilight, New Moon, Eclipse and then Breaking Dawn. Another book by Stephanie Meyer that isn’t in the series is The Host.
I enjoyed this book mainly because of how the author wrote it.  I liked the style she wrote it in because at times it was serious but sometimes it was humorous:
I was ninety-nine percent sure I was dreaming...  I was looking at my Grandma Marie. Gran had been dead for six years now, so that was solid evidence toward the dream theory.
The language the writer uses is quite simple and to easy to understand. The book includes a lot of short sentences which build up tension. It also contains a lot of long sentences with a lot of description such as: "his face was ice cold and reminded me of death."  I found I especially liked the ending of the story because it ended on a cliff hanger and it makes you want to read the next book in the series.
Out of five stars, I would give this book four, and I would recommend it to those who like fantasy and exciting stories.
