Inkheart by Cornelia Funke is a fantasy book all about the life of a twelve-year-old girl. Inkheart is the first book of the Inkworld Trilogy.

The main characters are Meggie, a twelve-year-old girl who lives all alone with her father,  Mo (Mortimer) also known as Silvertongue, who can read things into stories and out. Theresa is Meggie’s mother who, was “read into” Inkheart by Mo and then there’s Dustfinger, a fire breather who was “read out of” Inkheart but wishes to go back.

Meggie and her father Mo, a bookbinder, are living a perfectly normal life until a stranger shows up at their door. He tells Mo that Capricorn will find them. They leave the next day for Meggies aunt’s house but Mo ends up being kidnapped and a mysterious brown paper-wrapped book is stolen. Meggie decides to look for her father so she sets out and finds herself in a valley with Capricorn. She finds out about her father's amazing gift to read things in and out of books. For example, if Mo reads “ And then millions of golden coins fall from the sky,” millions of golden coins will fall from the sky. Finally, after escaping Capricorn’s valley, Meggie tries to find the one man that can possibly stop Capricorn from getting all power - his creator.

Cornelia Funke uses modern vocabulary but there are a few complicated words in the book. She uses lots of weird names for the characters such as Farid, Gwin and Mortola.

Some other books by Cornelia Funke are: Inkspell, Inkdeath, and Dragon Rider. She also wrote two series: The Inkheart Trilogy and Ghosthunters.

I really liked this book and once you start reading you don’t really want to stop. I would recommend it to anyone who likes fantasy and magic. The storyline doesn’t confuse you and the suspense is good. I would give this book four out of five stars.
