- Consultancy company Mouchel (mouchel.com) has started the long-awaited Feasibility Phase of the road to the European Academy. Date for your diary: Tuesday 23 March at 7.30 pm all parents are invited to a meeting with the people from Mouchel in the Schuman Hall, in which Mouchel will introduce their team and explain what they are doing. One of the consultants, Sandie Reed, has a permanent office in the school and she adopts an open-door policy. The consultants are working closely with CLASS, school management, teachers and us parents to find out if our school can be turned into an Academy and provide us with the answers to all the questions that we have been asking for the past three years.

- The reason why the Feasibility Phase has started is that the Expression of Interest was signed by the Education Minister in December.

- Within the first five years of the new Academy, an endowment fund of at least £2 million needs to be set up. In order to start our parental contribution to the future of the school, CESPA is organising a first fundraiser: the 2010 School Carnival! Get your tickets at Reception (available until the 22nd of February) for the Nursery/Primary/S1 Carnival on Friday 26 February or the Adult Carnival on Saturday 27 February. It promises to be spectacular, with contributions from all our different nationality groups, prizes and special surprises! Don’t miss it!

- All ECA activities will take place as usual on Friday the 26th of February; the swimming bus will be going to the Leisure Centre. If you send your children to the Carnival instead, you can request a refund for the ECA activities by putting your name on the CESPA list at the door on the day.

- All children that attend ECA-activities on Wednesdays and Fridays at the White Horse Leisure Centre must be under parental supervision at all times. The Leisure Centre is often (ab)used as a playground and complaints continue to be made by the general public, Leisure Centre staff and managers about our pupils’ behaviour to Hanne and to the school. Please put a permanent stop to those complaints.

- We are happy to see Mr Sharron, our Head Master, back at school after his terrible car accident before the Christmas holidays. I wish him a continued speedy recovery.

- Could you please talk to your children about respect for other people’s personal belongings and vandalism? Also, please be aware that a lot of everyday and quite expensive items have gone missing this year. I hope this will stop.

- Request from Gill Brook: If your child/ren are leaving the school in summer 2010, please let the school know by filling in the Pupil Leavers Form on the school web site www.esculham.eu (Document library – general school information), or pick up a copy of the form from Reception (there is no need to compete a form for S7s).

- Listen to this! Christian von Eitzen (DS2) won the Under 15 cross country competition both in the Vale and County with distinction! Chris will now represent our school in Manchester at English Schools Competition (Inter-county). PE teacher José Carlos says that if Chris continues to perform at the level that he has shown, he will hopefully be selected for the All England Team! Well done Chris and all the other excellent athletes in our school!
