
The fourth edition of the eLearning Awards of the European Schools took place during the school year 2009-2010. The aim of these awards is to recognise and reward innovative uses of Information and Communication Technology in Education (ICTE) whilst showcasing teachers’ professionalism and pupils’ creativeness.
On the 5th and 6th of May 2010 the Distance Learning working group met in Brussels to evaluate all the contributions put forward by pupils and teachers in the fourth ICT competition of the European schools .
106 contributions in total have been evaluated.
The digital works were assessed using 6 categories of criteria: pedagogic usability, technical implementation, applicability to different groups of learner, interactive and experiential characteristics, creativity and novelty.

Primary Pupils Category:
1st prize: Pedrom MESKINI (European School of Culham, P4ENa, 9 years old) presented a Digital Art Video Project combining several subjects: Art, Music and ICT. The jury was impressed by this good combination beautifully executed. Inspiration from this project came after a visit to Georges Pompidou centre in Paris. This pupil made his video art project in the school of Culham, he took himself all the pictures and gave a good description of the process (how to create a video from digital pictures and Adobe Pinnacle Studio).

The jury will also like to mention the extraordinary work of Julian WEBER (European School of Culham, P5DEa, 10 years old) who finished in the 4th place with a very good Word Processor video training kit, the jury have enjoyed the good flow on the speech and found the contribution very instructive for pupils of his age.
Secondary Pupils Category:
1st prize: Maximilien BAAS THOMAS (European School of Culham, S5FRa, 16 years old) presented a video art contribution, “Movie out of a stop motion: Genocide”. All elements of this contribution (storyboard, images, stop motion animation) are very well executed. It has a very strong message (all humans are equal) underlined with a very appropriate music. The theme chosen shows a great sensitivity and can inspire interesting discussions in the class. It can be used in all levels. The associated memory described the technique and give details about the process and the time employed.

Teachers Category:
3rd prize: Mr Juan José SOTELO VAZQUEZ (European School of Culham) with his contribution “Spanish Blog” for teaching Spanish, please see the below link...

The jury encountered a lot of difficulties the three winners as this year practically all contributions on the teachers category merited an award.
School Groups Category:
1st prize: European School of Culham with the project “Drugs just say NO”, an excellent combination between ICT and biology involving several pupils and teachers. The project deal with a hard subject but it managed to give a very effective and important message. The material is reusable in other schools on the secondary level, as it put on view a well balanced content presenting scientific facts and rough images on the effects of drugs.
