Overall, the ESC U14 basketball season 2009-2010 has been a great success. We won all the games but the county final (Wood Green 74 – European School 69).
In my eyes, the tougher match we played was the one against the American school of London (American school 38 – European School 39). Although it was a friendly match, the competition was fierce. After missing two opportunities to draw even, we scored in the last two seconds and wan by one point.
The County final against Wood Green was also a harsh one. The opposing team had a very good player who scored almost 50 points out of 74. Although, we were ahead during the first three quarters, we finally lost the game by 5 points. As Mr Carlos would put it: ‘this is the magic of basketball’. In my opinion, our team lacked mental strength probably due to our inexperience. We also felt very frustrated as two of our best players were sent out (Toby Arup and John Haist).
Although we lost the final, I feel that we have all made progress both as a team and individually - thanks to Mr. Carlos. I personally enjoyed the team spirit and was very proud to be the captain of such a great team.
We all hope we will succeed next year and will do what it takes to win the cup.
