Amazing, fun and incredibly tiring are a few words that describe the experience we had whilst in Frankfurt competing in Eurosport. After many weeks of intensive training for basketball, handball, badminton and the duathlon, we were ready to go. From the moment go we were a team and very easily identified by our bright yellow and black kits! Looking great we met with the other Europeans Schools, at the European School in Frankfurt, for the opening ceremony.
The competition set off with basketball and badminton, the day after consisted of handball and the last day was allocated for the finals and duathlon. With the whole team behind them, each person set out to do their best. At each match you could hear someone from Culham chanting about the brilliance of Culham! We may be a small school, but we're the loudest school! Culham's attitude was brilliant throughout the competition and everyone was there for each other.
Blood, sweat and tears were shed throughout the competition, and despite a lack of sleep and therefore a lack of energy the adrenaline was constantly pumping and we were always ready to go. However, Eurosport was not only a chance to compete, but also a chance to get to know other people from other schools, and with 330 competitors from other schools there were enough people to meet.
All in all it was an absolutely brilliant experience, and one that shows the European Schools in the best light possible, but one that also makes you very proud to be part of the European School in Culham. Yes, we're a small school and we may be closing, but we still continue to show our enthusiasm and represent the school to our best ability. We're proud of our school and we're proud to be part of the school, and despite not doing as well as we possibly would have liked to do at Eurosport, we still had an amazing time, and are still wearing our kits with pride!
We still achieved some amazing results including: 1stin swimming, 3rdin basketball, 4thin running and 7thin handball (girls).
It took time and effort to train for it, and a massive thank you must be said to Mr Carlos for organising everything and also to Mr Stepan and Frau Gietzelt for coming with us and helping us train. A humongous thank you must also be said to CESPA (ECA) for funding a large part of the trip and also to school management for being positive and supporting us, and allowing us to miss a couple of lessons here and there.
Everyone should try with all their might to go to Eurosport. It's a once-in-a-lifetime experience and one we'll never forget.
