Everything that happens is important to the plot, enhancing it, giving a place to it. This is the third book in the Alex Rider series, but each could just about stand on their own feet, though I would recommend reading them in order. I am definitely going to be reading the others.

The main character is Amber. She is a timid but caring girl who has been put second best by her mother to keep her ‘difficult’ and overly sensitive half-sister, Poppy, happy. She lives hidden behind the shaddow of Poppy who has had difficulty in settling into schools and colleges and making new friends.
